Lexington located 10 miles south of Interstate 40, midway
between Memphis and Nashville is the county seat of Henderson County.
The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 6,849, an increase of 1,039
since 1990. Latest census 2000 is 7,393.
Beech Lake, a beautiful 1000 acre lake located in Lexington, only 30 miles
east of Jackson Tennessee, is ideal for family fun; boating, swimming, water
sports, picnics and camping. Great fishing year around, (permit required)
with miles of beautiful homesteads. Annual boat racing during the Festival
of the Lakes. Testing site for Volvo Penta Marine Products, World Leader
in Marine propulsion engines. Beech lake is located just northwest of Lexington
off Hwy 412 W. Lexington is headquarters for the Beech River Watershed Development
Authority, an economic development project which has control over Beech lake
and six additional lakes that are within 15 minutes of Lexington for family
enjoyment.
Barbecue King - Lexington, Tennessee, with ten restaurants for 6,000 people
has more barbecue restaurants per capita than any other city in the US according
to writer Terry Mancour.
Natchez Trace State Park- the State's largest and most visited park, is
just six miles northeast of Lexington. The park covers over 46,000 square
acres and is managed by the Tennessee Department of Conservation. The park's
Pin Oak Lodge, located on Pin Oak lake, provides single and double room accommodations,
including cabins, restaurant, swimming pool and tennis courts for guest.
A newly developed campground with 77 new sites is also located near the lodge
on Pin Oak lake.
